[Vwdiesel] Snobbery and Car Fixing

I enjoy mechanicking and given the terrible experieces I have had taking my 
car to the mech, I now do everything myself except alignments. Did they use 
locktite?  Did they torque properly? did they clean the bolt first?  One point my 
father made repeatedly with me is that a penny saved is not a penny earned.  
A penny saved is one and a half pennies earned due to taxation.  In fact at a 
certain point of low income/self-sufficiency one can live relatively well with 
little to no taxation.
