[Vwdiesel] Off-topic post, M-B 300SDL

My friend has a 1986 M-B 300 SDL.  He needs a new exhaust system, and is interested in doing a mufflerectomy.  This is a turbo-diesel, so I don't think it'll be a big deal as far as noise goes.  It currently has a 3-muffler set-up, which I assume would have been OE an S-class.  My friend is somewhat hesitant at spending the $1100.00 (CDN) that he was quoted to replace the exhaust.  Any thoughts on the mufflerectomy?
