[Vwdiesel] Timing 101 question please

Since all of the exhaust valves showed signs of contact, I would suspect
that the cam timing was not set correctly. In this case, too far
retarded. Exhaust valves still open when the piston came up.
Assuming they followed procedures, changing the injection timing will
NOT change cam timing.
Having to use two head gaskets really bother me. Something was not right
from the get go.
I would really be interested to know what your piston projection is for
the 1.9.
My memory fails me, did you check cam timing before? The slot at the
back of the cam parallel with the head? Verified by looking at the #1
cam lobes for an even "V" sticking up?
