I just missed an 82 audi 4000 na 1.6 diesel the guy was giving away down the
road in Brookdale (I'm in Boulder Creek, in the San Lorenzo Valley above Santa
Cruz CA) The pump was bad and the tank was all sludged up among other
things, but it was FREE. Oh well, I really don't need another project right now,
but I would have taken it on just on general principles. Another guy got there
ahead of me. Hagar, you are correct about these little doozies getting more
attention these days. I have had an 85 NA jetta for a few years now, and my 85
Turbo Jetta for going on a year. Since my and the wife's commutes are
substantial, I'm feeling smarter every day (except for the difficulty I'm having
deciding what to do with my 66 mercedes 250 SE coupe, the 77 Landcruiser FJ40 I
bought new, the 88 Volvo Wagon and the 78 R100/7 Beemer. I can't bring myself
to part with ANY of em. After all, I've spent a whole bunch of time aquiring
them. I think maybe KARZ Annonymous might be in order. But back on the
actual topic at hand, by the way, California leaves us alone on the smog (smoke)
thing. No scheduled smog checks at all. The only thing that might cause a
problem is if someone calls in a complaint about your vehicle smoking too much.
Then they could possibly make you come in and get it checked out.
While i've got everybody's attention, anybody got a rebuildable core MF block
(1.6 turbo)?? I need one for my Really Slow Jetta. I pretty much have
everything else I need. I would pay a quite fair price for one at this point. The
closer to the left coast the better, though. Thanks, Doug. PS, The
overdrive thing-- anytime a transmission output shaft is turning faster than the input
shaft, it's considered overdrive, AFAIK
