Mike,Welcome to the group.  My 79 did the same thing 3 times.  I haven't torn it down, but it would start and run right up to about 72 mph when it would run away.  It doesn't necessarly mean there was catastrophic failure in the engine.  The problem here in the states is that 1.5 pistons are no longer available so to resurrect it would require some trial and error.  Much easier to find a 1.6 to replace the 1.5, and parts are still available for the 1.6.
