[Vwdiesel] Smoke has cleared

Maybe I didn't ask clearly.
Is it normal with a turbo diesel, for it to have far more power when warmed 
up to operating temp than when it is cold?


  It's real noticeable!  If it feels like you're running about 140W and no 
clearance on your pistons and bearings...  ;-)  Usually takes about 3 to 4 
minutes on a cool morning.  COLD mornings are a bit worse and last 
longer.  About as soon as the temp gauge starts to move things seem 
to suddenly free up.  Probably has as much to do with warmer engine 
making hotter exhaust (better combustion and just plain hotter too) as 
anything else.  Hotter exhaust makes for more expansion of the "air" 
making more volume, making the turbo spin faster.  :-)  Faster turbo 
is GOOD.
