A heli-coil will also requiretapping (as well as purchaing the install
kit). I've used a greased tap to convert M10x1 holes into 1/8" NPT on
the axles of my 4x4 for differential breather vents. Just go slow with
the tap, back it out periodically and you can clean it off and reapply
the grease (pack the flutes full of grease) as needed.
