[Vwdiesel] swapping out 1500 diesel with 1600 diesel

Hi all,
     Does anyone know if the 1500 diesel can be swapped out with a 1600
diesel, like for instance in an early rabbit?  Specifically, I need to know
if the 1600 will bolt up to the bellhousing the same way the 1500 does.  TIA

I forgot to mention the radiator  --- normally for a 1.6 L NA the rad is bigger.    My 1982 L
NA Rabbit came with a 1,5 L NA radiator   -----    make sure cooling system is in good shape.

Speed up your waterpump a tad if you know how.     Rabbits do not like sweating.
I wound up using the heater full blast on a hot day.    Older Rabbit ?    

1982 Rabbit takes in a about 2000 dollars now.canadian.
