I've had a bit of time off this week, so I have been focusing on adding the
turbo and such to my '83 vanagon camper. I put a turbo diesel engine in it a
month or so ago, and ran it n/a due to an engine mounting interference with the
turbo wastegate. I have been having a lot of fun/frustration getting
everything to fit correctly. Rotating the turbo housing to drain the turbo properly
proved to cause many headaches. I seem to have it all pretty well worked out
now. I am adding a Saab intercooler in front of the driver's side taillight
while I'm at it. The side of the van will get cut and formed into an
additional airscoop when I'm done. For the air cleaner, I'm using the stock DV box
kinda backwards. I will exit the air where it was drawn in previously and will
remove the intake manifold to create four very nice air inlet holes. The box
will go above the driver's side driveshaft. Glowplug relay will have to move.
I was planning on putting the airbox in front of the passenger side
taillight, but don't have enough space to route hose of adequate diameter. All will
probably be hooked up by the end of tomorrow. I also need to adress the
exhaust. I'm going to use the TD muffler and flange. Will have to grind off the
flange from the current pipe to rotate it. Two elbows later I think I'll be in
business. Why does it always take more time than I think? Time X2, X3 or
even X4 sometimes. Lot's of fun anyway. I'll keep y'all posted. WVO soon to
come also. What fun.
Andrew
