[Vwdiesel] Heart of economy

Most of you are aware that my 'Q' is fairly economic; but I
have to admit it; the engine is in need of an overhaul.
There is an oil leak somewhere behind the pulleys (cant
actually trace it) as its behind the silly designed (but
neccessary) rear guard. I also think the blowby is a little
excessive. but is probably not so bad when driving as it
drops off when revved to a fast idle.
My proposition is this...
I have another engine in another Quantum (hatch back). I'm
not sure of its condition but it does not leak oil; its
turbo runs at a higher pressure and the engine appears to be
of a higher compression as its harder to turn over by hand.
I'm thinking of using this engine. If its economy is not as
good I will do a heart and lungs transplant... ie reuse my
old pump, lines and injectors. This should surely return my
usual economy and possibly improve it with the better turbo
and higher compression; would anyone else agree???
I belive the transplant would improve the economy of any
engine of previously poor economy...
I also think if this is the heart of the matter of economy
then I could take this matched setup and wrap it up on a
shelf and store it. Then fiddle around with a spare set up
and match that up too over a period of time.
Would it not be useful to hold these matched setups in
reserve?
