I can show you the parts from a 2.4D VW engine that ate the head as 
cause of a loose tensioner.  I can also show you the parts from a TDI 
that ate the head as cause of a loose tensioner.  Might help you keep 
from performing a very expensive experiment (>$1,000 US for parts and 
head machining alone).  Never understimate the power of Murphy.
