Diamond itself does not conduct electricity. It is
a good heat conductor, though.  Very good electrical
insulation, good heat transfer.  Who'd have thought the
Clark Kent of lowly lampblack could be such a Superman?!

I saw some research about doping diamond with impurities
to transform it into a semiconductor.  That is the building
block for transistors and chips.  Do it right, and you get
a chip that can stand incredible abuse.  Very expensive,
but government and research can afford it if they really
need that level of performance.

Diamond is being grown in thin films for these applications.

Silicon carbide is being used in commercial electronic
parts.  Big advantage is its useable temperature range.
Makes good electronic sensors for ~~ 500 degree temperatures
(combustion sensors, etc).  Using it in very high power, high
voltage cellular base stations, too.  A bit expensive yet, but
that will change.  Probably be seeing more of it in future
automotive high temperature sensors.  Pretty robust.

Makes me look at my carbide drill bits in a whole new
light ;-)
