Im going to have my machining done at a shop the machines only diesels. I feel I would have a better chance of quality work. Also a bad injector will cause piston failure. The Volvo Green Book "Reconditioning Engine D24T, D24TIC 740/ 760/" States that " Pistons with rounded top edges must not be reused. Since this defect is caused by defective injectors, the injectors should be checked/reconditioned as well."

I can imagine a bad injector used over a long period of time (or maybe a short period of time) would eventually destroy the piston or round it off enough to loose compression.

I wonder how many miles should the injectors be replace. I have heard 100,000 miles, but I dont know if that is correct.

Also, look at this ebay ad for a 240 Diesel recently rebuilt with a No.#2 piston failure due to too much fuel.

Jim, or anyone else, I have the The Volvo Green Book "Reconditioning Engine D24T, D24TIC 740/ 760/ 780" in .pdf format if you would like a copy. If you would like a copy I would have to mail it to on you on CD because it is 30 Megs and I can only send attachments of 10 megs.

I will tear down the turbo diesel on Wednesday/Thursday and I will post my progress on my web page and when I get time, I will redo the web page so its not so cluttered. I am aware of the D24 diesel mail list and yes its pretty dead.

I was thinking of starting a forum for all older model diesels. One that you can post pictures and attach files ect.

Shalyn, I let you know if I need anything and thanks for your email. Im sorry your your father had so much trouble and I hope I can avoid the same problems. If your father has any tips or advice please have him forward them to me. This is my first time working on a diesel engine.
Thanks
Tim
