I am going to pipe in now. Out of all that I have
read, I like this theory the best. Intermediate shaft
or something in the lower end.

Another thing that is not being talked about, what is
all the white smoke, is this burning anti-freeze,
diesel fuel or oil. What does this smoke smell like?
Hang in there, this is a mystery for all of us.

You have good cold PSI, so expansion is the issue, I
venture to say your head is fine. If it were a sticky
pressure relief valve, you would get not pressure,
like the guy with the 1.9NA from overland.
Intermediate shaft bearings are next to consider and
easy to do the front seal.
We have all had issues like this from time to time,
that is why we keep going until it is fixed. There
will be a clear answer for everything in a VW, gas or
diesel.
