Right............
Hagar is old enough to remember the brass Pyrene with the pump on one end,
required by insurance companies, on aircraft many years ago (and public
busses, boats, etc.) they were filled with about a quart of carbon
tetrachloride, and if used on a fire, worked by "blanketing" the fire and
excluding oxygen. Trouble was, the vapour was highly toxic, and if you
breathed it, it was your last breath.
Or, if you didn't die just then, your liver turned to stone in a few days.
Choice of going down in flames or gassing yourself.
Good for removing grease spots from your clothes, though.
Just another chlorinated hydrocarbon, great stuff.
Personally, I liked the soda-acid tank ones, benign, (acid totaly
neutralized when inverted, making CO2 for a propellant) and lots of fun .
Remember Halloween high school dances?
You are all too young!
Hagar and I are as old as dirt.
