It can be significant...

If the seals are passing oil simply because they are old and
hard then replacing  makes the car thats been suffering look
like a rebuild :o)

However if some of the problem has been due to valve stem
guides wearing; then improvement will still be dramatic BUT
will return after a while...
How long?  Oh I dunno soon enough that you still remember
doing it and you start to wonder if one has popped off...
which is always a possibility...

Lorens point of being able to do it with the head on sounds
like a great tip... But how to compress the springs? Is it
some kind of bolt on rig? Or do I just put my 15 stone body
on it?
