maximum internal pressure is regulated by the ball valve at the vanepump
Mark (The Miser)Uk
Mark Shepherd and ALL : Firstly it is not a Ball valve and it is NOT a pressure regulator.
It is a sliding piston like a hydraulic spool valve a shuttle. covers and uncovers ports in the cylinder. And it is a FUEL regulator valve ---it is NOT a pressure regulator.
For the 107 A pumps Bosch calibrated the Regulator valve and the Orifice to work
with # 2 Diesel (the good stuff) with high viscosity. So that timing system would work
to optimum performance on a 1.5 L NA VW diesel.
Lower the viscosity and you will retard injection point. A worn vane-pump will retard
injection ----THAT is where the smoke comes from --NOT the amount of fuel injected.
The engine can not use the fuel if injection point is not ADVANCED with increase in
RPM .
Wait for the rest of the PUMP gang to arrive and you shall see. You may see more than 100
PSI when really stepping on it.
NO amount of timing and or Injector and what not will do if the timing system does not
work properly. 500 RPM (Pump) 34.8 psi 1000RPM 66.7 psi more or less linear
according to RPM. The timing spring is Linear.
SO for OLD Rabbits ? ---you got it ------ ask the PUMP gang.
Hagar.
PS : And Mark you got to make the orifice smaller to compensate for wear. (tricky tricky).
