I know of a very nice 92 Diesel Jetta in Ontario for $500, but owner says
the engine is beat.
Has 100PSI compression on 3 cylinders and 4th not much better. Nearly
impossible to start.
Mike, I think it would be a crime to have that car in "Nice Condition" get
pulled apart by the vultures for the simple lack of a rebuild. I'd been
looking for another turbo engine for a couple years now and a couple of days ago
stumbled onto a 92 ECO Jetta (non turbo, but has the turbo block and head!!)at
the Pick and Pull, and relatively unmolested (whew). It had been pretty severely
overheated (plastic parts on the head were melted). I had them pull it out of
the yard. Call me crazy but I'm paying them $650, and I plan on rebuilding
the engine. Pretty certain I can use the MF block. Don't know about the "T"
head yet. Still haven't gotten the head off to have a look. The car has
power steering, Air conditioning, cruise control etc, all the stuff I wanted. I
even have all the stuff to convert it to turbo. I'm thinking it'll be well worth
it to me to overhaul the engine and resurrect this automobile. It may be
more worth it (for me)since I can do most of it myself. It depends on the
situation you find yourself in, you will spend substantially more if you have to
have someone elso do the work, and it may not be worth it to you. For me though,
without much doubt, with fuel prices skyrocketing, over the projected life of
this engine/car, whatever I put into it should be repaid and then some in
fuel savings. (hey guys!!! no more seaching for a turbo block!!!!!!) Later,
Doug Ferguson
