Curiously, in its virgin state, the rad is mounted on 2 rubber washers at
the bottom, over plastic pegs of the end chambers. The top is held by 2
brackets that go in to the plastic end chambers as well (and are also rubber
mounted.)
If we consider the rubber hoses as non conductive, a little extra work could
ensure an electrolytically neutral situation.
I have noted on several part-outs here in road salt country, total disolving
of the aluminum fins at the botton where there is a steel plate across the
bottom. In those I re-use, I remove that plate and ensure the rad does not
touch the cross member.
The fan shroud is a bad device, and should be isolated from the rad as well.
I have some that are badly corroded at the fastening points. I will look at
alternatives.
On my next "project" I will pay more attention to galvanic gremlins.
Do you suppose they did NOT want the cars to last forever??
Designed in obsolescence?, unsafe at any speed??
Thanks for the heads-up.
Sandy
