As the glycol/h2o mixture ages it becomes acidic. The reason the radiator is now a battery. Keep in
mind this is affecting the whole cooling system, not just the rad. If you look at the engine as a
whole you have several different types of metal isolated from each other (hoses, and gaskets). The
best way to keep galvanic corrosion from happening is to keep the ph of the coolant at neutral. On one
of the gm diesel pages they discussed a kit with ph strips to measure the coolant and a neutralizer
that was added depending on ph level. To illustrate remember back to basic science where you stick a
copper nail and a zinc(?) nail in a lemon and generate voltage.
