[Vwdiesel] Injection pump testing for beginners 8. ----( Regulator Valve )

I can write this partly because of help from Doyt Echelberger -- Roger Brown --
Gavrik Peterson  and more.

Like we discussed about the governor ? -- that is was not a normal speed governor.
But a modified governor  Minimum -Maximum only regulator .  ( think springs)

Likewise the fuel regulator valve is not a normal pressure regulator valve.
It is a modified pressure regulator ---that allows the speed of the vane-pump to
have a say in internal pump pressure.

This in turn is what regulates timing ---(dynamic).

Where is this valve ?  up top at sprocket end of pump . Opposite inlet banjo.
It has two flats on it . Simple to remove ---be kind it is soft metal.  Right hand thread
and you can remove it for inspection and adjustment ---piece of cake.

Make sure it is clean and both O rings are in good shape.     .Push piston to
make sure it moves freely.

Funny thing about this valve ---it can be adjusted from the outside --like nothing
you ever adjusted before on an injection pump.

All you need is a pin drift and a small hammer. Place drift in center of two flats
and drift top stop plug down----Small moves now --to get correct pressure in pump.
If you go too far ? --no problem just remove valve and drift plug back up.

To remove valve ?   Tool ?   I just used a socket and a cotter key.  Piece of cake.
I did use a deep 6 point 3/8 drive socket as tight as possible.Cotter key ?
same as I use on rear wheels.

Just imagine ---you could drive in here with a smoking lethargic Rabbit and drive
out in two minutes with a real performer ?  And all I did was use a small pin drift and
a ball peen hammer. --------How's about that ? pump gang ?.

Adjust your pump to 44 Psi at idle.      Now I do not know the range of adjustment
due to me being in sickbay  ----I was going to check that on my test engine this
year --- shits that was not to be.

If 20 Psi is out of range ---get another pump.
