from what i have read on freds, and by no means am i an expert, but the actual
injection is controlled by the ecu. the only thing that the cam/plunger does is
create the pressure to inject. there still is an electronic piezo type valve
that needs to open and close for the fuel to get delivered to the nozzle.
is it complicated: well, it's a different animal.
PD have both crank and cam hall sensors.
they have fuel temp sensor to adjust fuel delivery depending on fuel temp.
timing belt has big teeth at injection points of the cycle on the belt.
biggest thing that gets overlooked when trying to compare ALH to BEW model is
EMISSIONS! PD's have lambda circuits and O2 sensor(s)! yeay, more power, more
torque, -10% mileage hit, but better emissions. PD's pay for it through with
crappy fuel.
