[Vwdiesel] Crank Timing Gear Question- '84 1.6NA

So the "key" or "nub" is cast into the pulley eh? Not a separate piece
that can be replaced. It did such a clean job of shearing I thought
that just maybe, there was a separate special key. Darn. Does anyone
out there have one of these pulleys they want to sell?

I don't recall which year they changed, but the 1.6na came with two
different styles of cranks.

One used a regular type woodruff key, and had the corresponding belt
pulley to go with it.

The other style is like you mentioned, the notch is cut into the crank,
and the belt pullet has a (anti-notch?) built into it ( or is it
wise-versa?) But you get the idea.

The cranks are interchangeable, but the respective belt pulley must be
used with its specified crank.
