And by the way IMHO a pump too far advanced helps to seat rings.
Hagar.
Seat rings? Did I read that correctly? Hmmmmm at what setting far advanced
would be the best setting to help seat rings? I can use that on mine. Mine
is set right at the max limit per the Bentley right now.
mikitka.
Yes mikitka you did ---- BUT I am not recommending doing it. I was talking
about Gavrik Petersons engine.
Lots of cylinder pressure help to seat rings. A pump should NOT be too far
advanced -- it will bring cylinder pressure up to a point where it harms the engine.
So put a good load on the engine instead. And use Mineralube. ---NO additives.
Gavrik is an aggressive driver (not like me) so his rings may be ok. A good
leak-down record will tell.
If blowby is high ---then the compression rings are not ok ---- if they are ok then
the oil scraper rings are in trouble . ---He is using oil.
But my feeling about Gavriks engine is that ---- it will be ok --he is a perfectionist
so ---first he must ask the machinist for numbers like cylinder to piston gap and
ring gaps. And cylinder finish. And type of rings ? chromed or not ?.
Loren --- you have the piston to cylinder gap handy --please post it --and while you
are at it tell Jeff Rakus where to get a tap for headbolt threads.
In closing ---DO not adjust pump to seat rings.
Hagar.
