I am writing this trying to help Shawn,Nick and Gavrik. ----and ALL newbies.

After seeing Gavrik Petersons reboring and overhaul of his 1.6LNA Rabbit diesel ?

I say YES it is worth the money and time NOW. ----considering fuel pricing.

Loren pointed out to me that my way of checking piston fit was near impossible to do.
Simple really --- I did not explain it right.

I learned this procedure from a mechanic at Finning Tractor Van.BC.

Clean bore --clean Piston NO RINGS or pin. Long feeler gauge blades about 12 " american inches.

With a 5 thou blade in cylinder and piston slides right through --on its own weight ? NO
good for a diesel VW. You need a bigger piston------ well you DIY's gets the drift ?---if NOT ?.
Leave it ALL to a good shop. ----BUT make sure you tell them to fit on the THIGHT side of specks.

For a gasser guy like me ? ---having seen a lot of frozen pistons ---to get to the diesel
fit was a challenge. ----but remember the lube quality of diesel fuel compared to gasoline.
On the TURBO ---the squirters not only COOLS but they lubricate cylinders.

In Denmark we had a saying -----"Tight as a Mouses Ear" --------

I flunked English and I still have no MS speller. --------so if you do not understand---?
just ask and I shall explain.

Hagar.

PS: where to find a GOOD rebuilder ? --I had super luck with "Allied Rebuilders" in Vancouver BC .Canada.
