The chamber is completely isolated from the head surface
unless you
want to count the roughly 8mm x 8mm opening into it.
Cutting .010
even from that hardly constitutes reducing the chamber
volume. The
valves are in recesses, slightly. They'd be about 35 to
40mm in dia.
and maybe 3mm deep? That's just not enough to go changing
head
gaskets over IMO.

I've been getting some feedback on this adjustable cam
pulley larkum; and I'm getting a consensus that on the 1.6TD
there is only fractions of a degree of movement available
because the valves are only a few thou away from piston at
best.
So I say the fact that some timeing bars seem to be pretty
sloppy; then without feeler gauges to take up the slack...
Skimming the head would have virtually no effect on the
compression; but could result in Le Crunch.

Back to the original thread subject:
Shawn my heart goes out to ya.
Very naughty of those chaps to turn an estimate into work
done!
What made you clean up the head if it wasn't leaking? I
guess you were only asking for a quote either way :o(
