  Have you tried disconnecting the hose from the turbo to the manifold 
and driving it that way?  Just divert the boosted air and drive it NA for a
 couple blocks even with no air filter.  That would eliminate any boost 
to the manifold and back pressure in the turbo. :-)
  Asked a friend about this and he's thinking it's more likely rpm related 
and just happens to coincide with boost.
