12 or even 14 ga. wire is probably fine for feeding a single glow plug.  Stranded 
would be the best, it would hold up to the engine vibration better than solid wire. 
I use anti-sieze on my glow plug threads.  It makes a good ground connection as well, 
the metal powder in it is a good conductor.  I often use anti-sieze on my regular 
chassis grounds, the grease helps seal the bare metal from oxidation and the metal 
powder helps the connection.
