When constructing my oil pressure checker earlier on in the
week I came across the same problem...
1/8 (x 28 I believe it is); is finer ie 28 threads to the
inch compared with the metric 25.4 turns/ inch. They do
wedge in and I 've done it previously with a tapered NPT
into the head. but its not advised as threads will obviously
distort.
Tapered threads naturally need no sealing washer just hemp/
PTFE
My gauge was NPT and I overcame it with a dud metric sender
with lug pulled off and an npt thread cut into back...
I then realised I also wished to see it whilst driving; so I
extended to the windshield with tubing and tucked the gauge
under a wiper blade..

Well, I got my box of gauge goodies today, oil temp,
pressure, and boost,
from CIP1.com. Also included are the oil temp sender #323
423D, which
says 300F, M10x1, and a T #240 850D, which also says M10x1
"VW
Application" on it.
However, it appears the temp sender uses tapered threads,
likely 1/8"
NPT, which will go in 2-3 turns before binding. Also the T
uses the same
taper on the male portion, but it correct M10x1 on the two
female ports
(confirmed with a VW oem sender).
This seems very odd to me. Is there such a thing as M10x1
*tapered*
thread, and if so, is it the same as 1/8" NPT? Is it safe to
force a tapered
thread into a straight sender hole? (if so, what torque is
safe?). Or did they
somehow mess up?
