Woohoo! Woohoo! Woohoo! Wowie Kazowie! Weird Oil Pressure issue is
GONE!!!!!!! I feel like I was finally able to remove a very large and festering
splinter after many months. Thanks to everyone. I am convinced that the problem
was caused by aerated oil. I was alerted to such by a p-mail from Shawn
Wright. He mentioned that he had heard of problems caused by frothing of the oil
by the turbo. The amount of air introduced into the oil would be proportional
to the speed of the turbo. This aparently is a normal phenomenon, but not
normally seen, as air rises out of the oil, and the pickup tube normally draws
from below the aerated oil. This was not however my case, due to the dipstick
being incorrect (past inaccuracy was confirmed when I added oil today). I
cannot completely prove my theory, as I changed several things while the van was
apart (changed bearings that were fine, went to a larger diameter turbo oil
return line, indexed the turbo to a "perfect" setting, etc.), but as far as I'm
concerned I'm convinced. My shoulder hurts from patting myself on the back.
By the way, I love that van.
Andrew :-) :-) :-) :-)
