You sound like you are too excited to sleep tonight after solving a problem
that has kept you awake many nights! ;)

That diagnosis sounds plausible to me.  I know that oil foam being sucked
into an oil pump makes crappy bearing lubricant and erratically low oil
pressure on a non-turbo engine.
