[Vwdiesel] turbo prime not the problem - still no go

It should start Will.
Loosen the nuts on the injector lines at the injector. If fuel comes out
there, you are getting fuel, no real need to pull injectors etc.
It's unadvisable to fiddle with high pressure oils of any type- after the
fuel pump the fuel is at pressures that can inject into skin in an instant,
and minimum, you lose a digit or portion thereof, maximum, you lose your
life. Heavy leather gloves, not split grain, not the pretty mechanix ones
either.
The volume of fuel you are dealing with is < a few ml per revolution, so
it's not a huge amount, it takes a while to get to the injector if the pipes
are competely empty.

The incidence of the plunger end of the solenoid breaking off is nearly nil.
Nearly. If yours is broken off run to the store and buy some lottery
tickets.
If no fuel comes out the loosened injector lines, then consider pulling the
solenoid, and changing out with another or plug the hole with a suitable
metric fitting.
I would start to suspect the primary side of the pump is probably weak (the
side that gets the fuel to the pump internals) How many miles on it?

Some have had exasperation until they eventually try to pull start it, then
it's all good again.

How many miles you put on the starter already :-)

Well, thanks for the priming tips. I picked up a suction gun for $12 at
schmuck's, used a hair dryer to soften the rubber on the little valve in
the return hose at the fuel filter and jammed the return line into the
hose on the suction gun. It sucked the fuel right up into the return
hose. Seems like the pump was primed.

The stop solenoid clicks loudly, so I don't know if it's worth it taking
it out or not. Tomorrow I hope to pull the fuel lines and hook up an
injector and see if I can see the spray from each port.

Thanks everyone.
