I have heard (some time ago) that cut-rate fuel shops were selling diesel
with other stuff mixed in, just to get rid of it.
Like transformer oil (can you say PCBs?)
Some kinds of fluids that look like fuel may not be. The transformer oil is
purposely formulated NOT TO BURN, at least be burn resistant.
Mixed with diesel it would perform poorly and smoke a lot.
Some kinds of solvents and other fluids are a pain to get rid of, and you
may have to pay someone to take them away, (unless they can get you to pay
them, and then they sell the stuff to service centers real cheap to cut the
diesel with)
Needless to say this would be illegal, immoral, and probably fattening, and
not contribute to good running.
All this hearsay as far as I'm concerned, but it's getting harder to trust
people now (I'm71) than when I was a kid.
And we have such good examples of citizenship and behavior in our
governments these days too!
