I like to use a dab of silly cone on the places where the gasket meets the
two other silly cone parts. I also like to use high tack sealant on the valve
cover, as it prevents the occasional slipping of the gasket into the valve area
between studs when it is tightened down. I have had that slippage happen 3
times in 10 years of back yard vw dieseling. It always seemed to happen toward
the back of the head where it wasn't visible, and drench the intake manifold
with a very large oil leak. Never happened since using the high tack.
