Is "flat towing" allowed down there?
IE: Bolt a tow bar to the front bumper/frame area of the caddy and then tow
it that way?

My 88 Jetta 1.6L turbo could never have towed that. I tried a small utility
trailer loaded only with an Austin Mini engine/tranny (375lbs) and it
struggled over the hills. (foot to the floor in 3rd or 4th gear type of
thing.). No idea of weight of the ultily trailer, but it was a home-made
one...small to medium sized.

PS-
Unless the landscape is very very flat on this trip, I'd go with the RAV4,
but I hear what you're saying about the wife !
