Hey Michael,
Having ruined a few starters and batteries, I found a method of priming a dry pump that works well. First mark everything for later reassembly, and then remove timing belt. Connect electric drill with socket to pump sprocket nut, loosten fuel lines at injectors, switch on ignition and spin the pump till fuel appears. Reassemble everything & it starts instantly.  Your starter will thank you. Good luck.
