[Vwdiesel] Ran out of fuel?-what to do?

We ran out of gas (diesel) in our 1.6 Westy a couple of weeks ago. Durn 
malfunctioning fuel guage!! After rinsing the crud out of the fuel filter, 
I filled the filter up with Power Service additive, and it started after 
cranking for about 5 to 10 seconds.

I've done priming this way several times, and never takes longer than 10 
seconds to start.

But, I wish VW had something like Mercedes 5 cyl diesel have: a neat 
little built-in priming pump.
