In addition to the mounts Roger mentioned, check the steering shaft,
anyplace there is a keyway or a spline, specifically the steering wheel
mounting, the u joint under the dash, and attachment to the rack, or a
flexible joint if there are any. Don't screw with this, steering issues
where the wheel gets free from the the rack can be disastrous. Find it
before it finds you.

Subject: [Vwdiesel] weird steering wheel
Hey,
I'm having a weird issue with the steering wheel. The car tracks
straight, and the tie rods seem good, but after going around a hard
right turn, when i go straight again, the wheel is cocked about 10 or 15
degrees to the right. If I jerk it real hard to the left (while driving
in a straight line at about 55mph) the car jerks left, I correct, and
the wheel is straight again. Similar around a hard left turn, but the
wheel only gets about 5 degrees out of wack.
Any ideas where to look for this problem?
Thanks a lot
