I know I really should drain all the old orange antifreeze out of the GOLF
and start fresh, but not today.
Any danger of just adding a few liters of some regular ol' 50/50 green
'Prestone' & water (mixed) to the existing orange (VW?) goop already
residing in my cooling system?
I don't know if I'll even get that far today, as I am working on about 5
different problems at once.
I am pretty sure 1 GP is burned out. It's the 2nd one in from the left, if
standing @ the bumper looking into the engine bay. Looks like it might be
tough to replace.
I used a multimeter with a temp probe on it to check. Not sure how much
"heat" is coming down the busbar, but I am so-far about 82½% sure that plug
is open and the others are working.
Next step will be an ammeter, thick battery cable to starter, fuzzy dice on
the mirror but one thing @ a time.
First the heater core, so I can actually drive the beast !
Oh yeah, I also "made" a pull handle knob for the cold start cable. Mine
was totally gone, making it all but impossible to pull. Just tiny
razor-like shards remained, which are kinda hard on your hands when it's
-25*C and everything is froze.........cable is still real stiff, but moving
a little.
What I did was wrap a chunk of bailing wire around the cable-end and put a
roll of electricians tape on the end as my "pull handle".......LOL<<<I
laughed out loud ! A combination cold start knob and tape dispenser. I
should market it. LOL........it'll get me by until I can get another one.
My gosh what a hillbilly repair that one was ! Hagar would be proud.
Mike in NB.........working on a Golf instead of going to work today.
