I have it off! the oil return line was not burried behind the engine mount.
I had forgotten this was out of an A1 jetta, probably and 82.
I had bolted the mounts from another A2 to it, sawed off the A1 mount on the
front, and must have directed the oil line down along the outside of the
mount when I put it together.

Been so long, I'd forgotten. Came out slick with my little hoist.

Question.

The gasket fitted is a one-notch.

What are the benefits or drawbacks of going to a 2 notch. There are no valve
marks on the pistons, I can even read the numbers on the piston tops before
cleaning. Very little carbon. Pistons are tight in the bores. I think
there's a lot of running in this thing yet. Could probably wear out a couple
of cars.
This is the one I ran veggie in last summer. Would that have any effect on
the gasket?
Sure kept the engine clean.

Would slightly reduced compression (thicker gasket) result in greater gasket
longevity?
This engine goes to another car when this one falls apart.

I'm going to use stretch bolts for re-assembly. Too much trouble to import
raceware.

Will have pix if I can find a place to post them.

Sandy
