Sandy at a guess I'd keep the thinner gasket because:
If compression became an issue in the future it would
delay starting issues maybe...
If the gasket is the weak link (and it was on my 'Q') due
to its integrity failure from laminations in its
construction allowing seepage and corrosion and finally
catastrophic failure; then if the thicker ones are made with
more laminations I'd suggest it's weaker.
This of course must follow some kind of graph as each
thickness allows about 5% drop in working pressures I
think???
Has anyone used a copper(I think) laminated gasket?
What about the use of steel insert rings?
