Yes, you want to be concerned about that.

I have been running a cartridge in front of my volks filter for a long time. 
As a WVO mix user, it's important.
It's a replacement for some chevy pickup, bigger than most car cartriges,
and costs about $2US. Uses the same size 5/16" hoses, and a stub hose and
clamps come with it, so you have the whole kit in a box!

 I keep a few in the trunk, and found it gives plenty of warning when it
plugs up, the power and top speed drop off gradually. Easy no-tools roadside
replacement.
I get mine at Canadian tire, but they will be available anywhere.
