Folks,
Old Paint ('86 Golf Diesel 1.6 NA) plays hell getting started.
Have replaced 5 yr. old battery w/ new Advanced Auto "850 cca" battery. $60
US.
Added 4 oz Power Service to fuel tank about 30 miles ago.
It is still cold out 15* Fox, and she scares me just to start.
Have tried activating GP w/ ign.key 4-5 times and crank starter 1 min or so.
Repeat, repeat, repeat,,, and finally get a breath of fire out her and nurse
start.
I know when cold oil gets thick, so I add assist w/ a battery booster
pack.
Now I wonder if my problem is that 50 AMP fuse mentioned in emails past.
I like to think it was a Hagar perhaps emsg converting INCH-MM scale while
using an anchovy tin for an emergency fuse. Great McGyver material!
So I go to check the fuse and can't find the blasted thing.
I looked all under the dash, and all I find is the fuse box.
The fuse box/panel position #14 has a good 10 or 15 amp fuse in it.
Not a 50 ampere fuse to be found.
I think the boiler plate on panel door refs to #14 as Horn & GP fuse.
Hard to read, too small print, and upside down.
Oh, horn doesn't work either but GP Idiot Light does.
You know, the coiled-spring symbol light, right ?
Is that what I should be looking at, must pos. #14 be 50amp vis 10-15?
Or am I just imagining a standalone BIGMOTHER 50 AMP BLOCK is what
I'm looking for but cannot find?
Where would VW hide a standalone 50amp block ?
Checked for elusive 50amper in the old Chitlin's Manual, but no reference.
Where to look, was I warm, or just getting close?
