Well, took my 4 yr old and myself for a 60km round trip tonight in Bondo
Golfy and it was a resounding success ! 160kms' on my trip meter and fuel
guage only down about 1/8th of a tank (maybe a smidgen more)....I know these
guages aren't linear, but 1280kms on a tank would be kinda nice ! (any idea
how many liters these things hold?)

After topping off the antifreeze this morning (down about a liter and a
bit...just a dribble was left in the overflow tank) I had no further
problems with the temp guage or blinking red LED.(whew!)

We had some Chili and Ice-cream for supper @ Dad's (yum!) and after being
parked in the -10*C weather (4km/h breeze) for 4 hours she fired up just as
I touched the key.(no GP's even used, starter whirled I think twice)

No problems with cruising along happily @ 105km/h for 30km each way. When
you really hit it, and wind it out to the extent of the revs in each gear it
bogs down......but maybe this is normal for a diesel. (?)
My 88 Jetta 1.6TD seemed to have a little more "oomph" at high revs (but
less at low revs than this Golf) but it was a slightly fresher rebuild on
the engine and the Jetta was a turbo also.

We'll see how it does next week.......still debating whether to take it to
work or not.,...it's supposed to be (on average) only about -5*C here @ 4pm
(a virtual heatwave for NB,Canada in February)

Still haven't figured out how to get it started @ 4pm after sitting outside
@ work for 8 hours on "cold' days.....
