A... Was there quite a bit of old fuel in the tank when you got it?
B...Has the main fuel filter been changed??
c...Hapens more when cold.
Sounds like starving for fuel at max demand. runs fine at low load, low
demand, but starves at max.
I suspect something is restricting the fuel flow, or it is sucking air at
high load, or both. And the temperature sensitivity sounds like old/plugged
filter, plugged screen in tank.
Tank screen is easy to check, under the mat in the "trunk" is a round cover
held down with 3 screws.
Under it is the tank unit incorporating the guage sender and the fuel pickup.
2 hoses, one send, one return. The fat one is supply. with the electrical
plug unplugged and the hoses disconnected, THOROUGHLY clean the crap away
from around the retaining ring (use a vacuum cleaner) unscrew the ring and
lift off. vacuum again.
Now lift out the unit carefully. Note the position it was in for replacement.
The fuel pickup is spring loaded against the bottom of the tank, the pickup
screen is in the side of the pickup near the bottom. the bottom is solid.
Now's a good time to pump out the tank if it has crud in it. You can vacuum
it with a shop vac if you never take it back in the house again. (how do I
know?)
Check the screen for goo, wash with brake cleaner, assembly is reverse of
removal (don't you just hate that remark!) You may have to press down a
little on the assembly to get the ring back on.
