  Maybe, maybe not.  EVERY early Subaru I worked on, nearly all that 
I heard going down the road, had a loose thrust issue.  ALL the machine 
shops would declare that as the main issue with the 1600 engine (EA71?).  
Custom cut thrust, matched to the bearing solved it every time.  Didn't 
hardly sound like a Subaru anymore!  :-)
