Either of those options is a lot more efficient than fooling with it
myself, but I may be unable to resist...

I've done two or three. They aren't that bad but your balance is off. You

have to mark the compressor wheel indexed to the shaft before you
remove it. Balancing is somewhere between $25 and $40, I just don't
remember. I know a guy in Seattle that used to work for ADP and now
does them independantly. Good pricing in kits and labor too if you
don't want to tackle it yourself. Only real trick is the screwy headed
bolts behind the compressor wheel. The rest is easy except for balancing,
which is still easy, IF you have the fancy machine!

...How do you know when a turbo is bad?
My latest Q is very quiet on spoolup (not that I've done much testing on it
as I've put it in storage for a couple of months)My current driver has a faint
whistle on spoolup and when standing behind it the exhaust sounds like one
of those '70's fishtail exhaust warbles(8^D)
It's not changed in 3 years or so.
About 6 years ago I sat in my first diesel Quantum; but I didn't buy it because the turbo
whistled so loudly that you had to keep the window shut and the seller said it was normal!
