[Vwdiesel] WVO question

Running veggie oil, even diluted with diesel, will eventually gum up
the injection pump and injectors. They must be purged with good,
clean diesel before shut down. The heat inside the injectors and the
pump will slowly cook the residual oil, ending up with a gummy mess
that locks everything up. Now, that being said, it will take longer
for that to happen with diluted veggie oil but it will happen. There
is a guy locally who bought a really expensive "green diesel" system
that purported to completely purify the oil so that you could burn it
with no problems in any vehicle. As proof they would show an engine
that had been run "continuously" on the stuff for many many hours.
The clue here is continuously. The gummy stuff does not form until
engine shutdown when the oil left standing in the pump and injectors
slowly cooks after shutdown. He ran the stuff in varying mixtures
with diesel for about 4 weeks and began to have starting and running
problems. I suggested he stop using the stuff, run a couple of cans
of Diesel Purge through his system and run nothing but diesel or
biodiesel for a few tanks. Luckily for him, he was able to clear the
fuel system before the problem got serious. SO..... If you are going
to use WVO you need either a second tank, or just do what I do, make
biodiesel. hayden
