Well, I snagged a 70 amp relay and holder from a parts vanagon I have and 
wired it into the Quantum.  100% cured.  No more push button.  The thing cranks 
like a dream.  WOOHOO.  I will still work on ground path corrosion.  As Loren 
said, the stock system should work, and so indicates a fault that, IMO may 
affect other things.  But, the starter works great.  :-)  Thanks all.
