[Vwdiesel] retorqueing

Rolf,

I just did a head gasket on my 91 NA Jetta. I used the OEM gasket
(G---- something brand). I have the corresponding Bentley, which
called for a two step torque wrench torquing. That's followed by
two 90 degree tightens. Then the engine is warmed up to temp, and
while warm, as quickly as possible, another 90 degrees are done.
Then, after 1000 miles, a final 90 degree increment is added.
That's one full rotation (360 degrees) after something like 55 ft lbs.
It's allot of torque, but all the bolts turned OK, and some easier
than others (ouch? wow!).

I'm only 25% of my way to the 1000 mile torque, so I can't tell you if
I broke any bolts on the final torque (yet).

The bolts only get tightened. There is NO loosening and then retorque.

I suggest that you double check your Bentley. You might find instructions
there.
